Effets directs du développement financier sur la pauvreté : validation empirique sur un panel de pays à bas et moyen revenu

Abstract

This paper empirically examines the existence of direct effects of financial development on poverty reduction in 67 low and middle income countries over the period 1986-2009. The empirical results suggest that the financial development contributes directly to the reduction of poverty, and this, independently of the econometric method used. On the other hand, instability related to the financial development would penalize the poor population and would annihilate the positive effects of financial development. Thus, is it necessary to find a trade-off between the financial development and its instability in order to ensure a pro-poor growth ?
