Abstract

This paper deals with the stakes and means of tourism development in Tunisia compared with the Hungarian example. The Tunisian Tourism has known a spectacular growth during the 60s due to a strong State?s interventionism. It is currently affected by a lack of profitability and sees its market shares decreasing. These tendencies underline the necessity for Tunisia to continue the reconstruction and levelling process started in the middle of the 80s : qualitative and quantitative improvement of the offer, diffusion of sustainable tourism and introduction of new promotion and marketing methods. Similar challenges have been taken up for 10 years by Hungary thanks to a massive resort to foreign direct investment and the development of international co-operation and partnerships between the public and private sectors. The country is now among the first world destinations and offers a diversified, flexible and quality tourism.
