Abstract

Currently, the concept of sustainable development is creating various controversies. One of them is dividing the sustainable development and the attractiveness of territories. This paper makes an effort to show that the two concepts could be convergent or totally divergent. In this case, we adopt rather an empirical approach through the use of sustainable indicators as they are used within the European Union for implementing its economic development policy. Assuming there is a compatibility between sustainability and the attractiveness of territories, we will provide some indicators liable to be applicable to these two concepts, at the same time, we will choose others only applicable to either of them. Finally, we will study the interactions between some sustainable and attractiveness indicators following the footsteps of the European Union.
