Abstract

Spin-offs cover all situations where employees set up their own business with the support of their former employer. An incomplete translation of the term ?spin-off?, the concept has been little studied in France, and the Anglo-Saxon literature on the concept is not always well adapted to the French context. Here, the studies have long done spin-offs a disservice by reducing them to a ?reclassification tool? or ?a soft dismissal practice?. Spin-offs are practiced supporting employees on the path to business creation. Spin off initiatives can be launched at the request of the employee or at the request of the company that are interest of reducing staff. A spin-off is defined as win-win when it comes to outsourcing activities and possible business cooperation. Nevertheless, can we speak of a win-win spin-off during downsizing practices? This article focuses on the emergence of the feeling of success among spin-off employees, which can transform downsizing into a win-win practice.
