Migration et rationnement du marché des biens

Abstract

This paper analyzes rural to urban migration in Less Developed Countries. Our main assumption is that this kind of migration can be due to the lack of modern urban available consumption goods in rural areas. Focusing on this hypothesis, our model of a dual economy where individuals target is utility maximization shows that although Todaro?s paradox might hold, Harris and Todaro?s prescription to stop migration is not requisite: an appropriate supply of modern urban available goods policy in rural areas alone seems sufficient, both to stop migration and to solve urban unemployment problems that arise with it.
