Abstract

Objavenie bridlicového plynu a ropy a nového spôsobu ich ťažby predstavuje dramatický vývoj v oblasti energetickej politiky. Prvýkrát za posledné storočie, vďaka novým technológiám, sa dostáva do popredia možnosť zmeny pohonu vozidiel a lietadiel, zníženie nákladov na výrobu plynu a ropy vedúce k ekonomickej prosperite, nezávislosti a potenciálneho odľahčenia záťaže výrobných dopadov na životné prostredie. Napriek svojmu potenciálu a výhodám, jeho využívanie je však mimo Spojených štátov amerických (USA) diskutabilné a obmedzované. Tento článok poukazuje na benefity, potenciál a riziká z využívania hydraulického štiepenia plynu a ropy. Zároveň podporuje tvrdenia o jeho potenciále pre rozmach v blízkej budúcnosti. Autorka však zdôrazňuje, že o jeho presadení by mal rozhodnúť svetový trh, ale len pokiaľ je to ekologicky zvládnuteľné a udržateľné.
