Sino-Indian Relations. Part 5 Period Of The First Modi Government (May 2014 - June 2017)

Abstract

The Part 5 of this study analyzes Sino-Indian relations during the initial period of the first Modi government until the beginning of the Period of clashes in Doklam region in June 2017. Comparing to the previous Indian governments the Modi government practically from the beginning begun to apply a very assertive policy towards China. As a reaction to the geopolitical activities of China in South Asia and Indian Ocean, India gradually actualized existing as well as elaborated new geopolitical strategies, which with various level of success had begun to implement during the period analyzed in this part of the study. From the geographical and geopolitical point of view India’s effort was focused on “defence” of its claimed sphere of influence against perceived increasing Chinese influence as well as on encroachment into the regions considered by China as belonging to the Chinese claimed sphere of influence. This was done in accordance with the logic, that India has begun to do to China, what according to India, China had already been doing to India for several decades.
