Suezská Kríza Vrcholí – Aké Boli Vyhliadky Mierového Riešenia? (August 1956)

Abstract

Tri týždne po znárodnení Spoločnosti Suezského prieplavu Británia nedokázala rázne reagovať. Okamžitý vojenský zásah bol nemožný a účinné potrestanie Egypta si vyžadovalo americkú podporu. Ministri uznali, že predstava J. F. Dullesa o „vyvrhnutí“ prieplavu, bude závisieť od diplomatických krokov a vytvorenia medzinárodnej koalície, ale „jastrabi“ ako Anthony Eden a Harold Macmillan sa nechceli vzdať vojenského riešenia. Plán prvej londýnskej konferencie vypracovaný J. F. Dullesom, Selwynom Lloydom a Christianom Pineauom, bol jednoduchý: pod vedením Británie, USA a Francúzska väčšina zostávajúcich 22 štátov mala súhlasiť s vytvorením medzinárodnej správy, ktorá by kontrolovala tranzit cez prieplav. Egypt sa odmietol zúčastniť a zamietol akékoľvek spochybňovanie svojej zvrchovanosti.
