Insights from a Community of Practice for Teachers: case study from Uzbekistan

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the findings from our survey conducted among members or participants in Mentor Hub Telegram and ELT Uz Facebook social media groups. These groups are aimed to support teachers’ professional development through its members and collaboration. This research investigates the demographics of the membership, their reasons for being part of these groups and how participation in Mentor Hub supports teachers’ professional development. We found some evidence to support the positive outcomes of group employment facilitation in several areas and the challenges of the structured guidance and the varying levels of engagement among participants. This research demonstrates the potential of digital CoPs recommending educators, EdTech organizations and funders seeking strategic opportunities to establish online communities in promoting professional development of teachers.
