Abstract

Solar-Bürger-Genossenschaft eG is the oldest energy cooperative in Germany that is still active today, financing, constructing and operating photovoltaic power stations. Founded on February 8, 2005 in Bürstadt, now based in Freiburg, many of its development steps are reflected in the development of the EEG, the Renewable Energy Sources Act introduced on March 29, 2000, and its amendments. In addition, it shaped some developments in the German energy cooperative scene. Despite constantly changing and often complicating framework conditions, the players in the cooperative continue to try to promote a sustainable, decentralized and fair energy supply in the hands of citizens.
