Abstract

Regionally acting cooperative banks perform systematically differently in urban, semi-urban and rural areas. This is due to interest results: rural banks usually achieve higher interest earnings and lower interest costs. Literature suggests lesser competition intensity which we can only confirm to a limited extend. We furthermore draw conclusions regarding the optimal size of cooperative banks.
