Abstract

This article presents the empirical results of a qualitative case study on the founding process of a family cooperative (“Familiengenossenschaft”). The foundation of the Familiengenossenschaft Nordeifel-Euskirchen was analysed in order to identify conditions which may potentially stimulate or hinder the establishment of new family cooperatives. Of particular interest in this context is the fact that the Familiengenossenschaft Nordeifel-Euskirchen was not founded as an independent cooperation but rather as a regional subsidiary of the already existing Familiengenossenschaft Münsterland eG.
