Abstract

The year 2012 would mark 20 years since the birth of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). As stated under Article 2 of this Convention, the ultimate objective of the UNFCCC is to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. In support of this objective, the Convention required parties to ‘take precautionary measures to anticipate, prevent or minimize the causes of climate change and mitigate its adverse effects’.
