How does wage polarization affect productivity? The case of Spanish regions

Abstract

The effect of wage polarization on total factor productivity (TFP) in the Spanish regions between 2004 and 2012 is analysed using dynamic panel estimates. The main finding of this research is that there seems to be some evidence that polarization can affect productivity negatively. Although the specification of the models seems to be correct, the time period studied is brief, so these results should be interpreted with caution. Se analiza el efecto de la polarización salarial sobre la productividad total de los factores (PTF) en las regiones españolas entre 2004 y 2012 mediante estimaciones de panel dinámicas. El principal hallazgo de esta investigación es que parece haber alguna evidencia de que la polarización puede afectar negativamente la productividad. Aunque la especificación de los modelos parece ser la correcta, el período de tiempo estudiado es breve, por lo que estos resultados deben interpretarse con cautela. 2004年~2012年のスペインの地域における、賃金の二極化の全要素生産性(TFP)に対する影響を、動的パネル推定を用いて解析した。本研究の主な知見から、二極化が生産性に負の影響を与えることを示すエビデンスがあると考えられる。モデルの仕様は正しいと考えられるが、研究期間は短いため、これらの結果の解釈には注意を要する。
