A Regression Control Chart for use in Personnel Selection

Abstract

Candidates from different schools may be characterised by two sets of data: ‘scores’ and ‘marks’. Scores, being based on teachers' assessments, reliably measure the relative qualities of the candidates from any one school, but the standard of scoring may vary from school to school, so that scores for candidates from different schools are not directly comparable. Marks are derived from the results of a common examination; they are not as reliable as scores for any one school but are comparable for different schools. Mr Sandon shows how, with the aid of correlation analysis, marks may be used to adjust scores so that scores for all candidates can be made comparable.
