Measuring the Activity of Small Manufacturers

Author

Listed:
  • Frank A. Hanna

Abstract

In this article attention is drawn to the special requirements of ‘small‐plant’ economies where censuses or surveys may be made. In such economies the predominance of small firms may lead to misleading results if the methods used in countries such as the United States are adopted. Drawing on his own experience, gained while in Greece as an industrial statistics expert for the United Nations, the author illustrates his argument with figures taken from industrial censuses of the United States and of Greece.
