A trend in the use of computers for information processing

Abstract

There is a basic assumption in much of the work done in the field of information processing that computers are, could, or should be considered to be the model devices for doing information processing. This premise has potentially important ramifications when the possible future use of computers in information processing is considered, especially with regard to the handling of natural language. Recent applications of computers indicate a trend to adapting them to the problem rather than vice versa.
