Religious Diversity and the Right to Freedom of Religion in Vietnam Today

Abstract

The aim of this article is to explore the nature of religious diversity, religious conflict and the implementaton of the right to freedom of religion in Vietnam today. Using comparative approaches in law, politics and cultures, as well as the findings from an empirical study on socicial conflict, the article identifies the trends and practices of religious diversity, the right to freedom of religion, and their relationship with social conflict. By looking at the ways in which human rights and the right to freedom of religion is provided in the Constitutions of Vietnam, the paper identifies the relationship between the respect for religion diversity and the right to freedom of religion with the solutions of social conflicts in religion, as well as examines the achievements and challenges in ensuring religious diversity and the right to freedom of religion in the context of international intergration and development in Vietnam today.
