Abstract

Against a backdrop of financial tensions and banking regulation reforms, discussions about the various bank business lines have come into sharper focus and, in the light of the highly diversified profi le of French banking groups, in September 2011 the CNIS (Conseil national de l’information statistique – National Council for Statistical Information) set up a working group on bank business lines in which the Banque de France participated. Published in May 2012, the group’s report sets out various recommendations for the authorities and the banking sector aimed at improving the availability and quality of bank statistics by business line.
