El gasto en pensiones en España en comparativa europea

Abstract

Motivación Existe una elevada disparidad en la ratio de gasto en pensiones y PIB en los países europeos. Este artículo estudia el tamaño del sistema de pensiones español en relación con el resto de los sistemas de la UE y analiza los determinantes que explican las diferencias observadas. Ideas principales. • En 2019, el gasto en pensiones en España, en relación con el tamaño de su economía, fue superior al de la media simple de la UE y alcanzó un valor similar al de la media ponderada por el PIB. • En 2019, España presentó, respecto a la UE, un menor envejecimiento poblacional y una menor cobertura del sistema de pensiones. Por el contrario, exhibió una tasa de empleo más baja y una mayor cuantía de las prestaciones en relación con el salario medio. • Las proyecciones demográficas indican que el gasto en pensiones aumentará notablemente en España. Algo más del 40 % de dicho aumento podría ser compensado si la tasa de empleo se elevara hasta alcanzar el nivel que dicha tasa registra en Alemania.
