El empleo en la UEM en 2012

Abstract

En la segunda mitad de 2011 se inició un nuevo período de retroceso de la actividad en el conjunto de la UEM, que se prolongó e intensificó durante 2012 y condicionó la evolución del empleo y del paro. Así, según las encuestas de población activa (EPA) de los países miembros, el número de empleados disminuyó un 0,8 % en el promedio del año pasado, tras el avance del 0,3 % registrado un ejercicio antes; y la tasa de desempleo se situó en el 11,9 % en el cuarto trimestre, cifra nunca antes alcanzada desde la creación de la Unión Monetaria. Este artículo analiza la evolución del empleo, la población activa y el desempleo en la UEM durante el año 2012, prestando especial atención a los segmentos de población que han registrado un comportamiento diferencial. Para ello se ha utilizado la información que distribuye la Comisión Europea a partir de los datos recopilados en las EPA elaboradas trimestralmente por los institutos nacionales de estadística de los países que forman el área del euro.
