El empleo en la UEM en 2011

Abstract

La evolución del empleo en el conjunto del área del euro mostró un comportamiento muy dispar a lo largo de 2011. Así, en el primer semestre del año, las cifras repuntaron, tras tres años de fuerte retroceso, impulsadas por el mayor dinamismo de la actividad que se venía registrando desde finales de 2010. Sin embargo, el deterioro de la situación económica en la segunda mitad del año se trasladó con rapidez al mercado laboral (véase gráfico 1), que se vio afectado con especial intensidad en el cuarto trimestre. Este artículo caracteriza la evolución del empleo, la población activa y el desempleo en el conjunto del área del euro durante el año 2011, identificando los segmentos de población que han registrado un comportamiento diferencial. Para ello se ha utilizado la información que distribuye la Comisión Europea a partir de los datos recopilados en las Encuestas de Población Activa (EPA) elaboradas trimestralmente por los institutos nacionales de estadística de los países que forman el área del euro.
