Canales de reciclaje internacional de los petrodólares

Abstract

El precio del petróleo ha experimentado un sustancial aumento desde inicios del año 2002, lo que lo ha llevado a alcanzar cotizaciones máximas históricas en términos nominales a fines del tercer trimestre de 2005 y nuevamente durante enero de 2006, cuando el crudo tipo Brent alcanzó cerca de 68 dólares por barril, más de tres veces el precio de enero de 2002. Aunque en términos reales el precio del petróleo aún no ha alcanzado los máximos históricos de 1980, el actual incremento se ha traducido en una significativa mejora de los términos de intercambio para los principales países exportadores de petróleo. En total, los exportadores de petróleo habrían recibido por este concepto alrededor de 700 mm de dólares en 2005 (un 73% más que en 2001), de los cuales alrededor de un 80% se dirigió hacia los países de la OPEP y Rusia. Este artículo analiza, a la luz de los escasos datos disponibles sobre estas economías, el uso internacional de esos recursos a través de los canales comercial y financiero, comparándolo con experiencias previas de aumentos en el precio del petróleo.
