Abstract

Esta investigación corresponde al capítulo 10 del libro La investigación económica y social en el Perú. Balance 2007-2011 y agenda 2012-2016, serie del CIES, Diagnóstico y Propuesta 53, 2012, pp. 381 a 416. Si bien el Perú depende en gran medida de los sectores extractivos (minería, pescas y forestal), se ha registrado un interés creciente por los mecanismos de pagos por servicios ambientales (PSA). Al respecto, diversas iniciativas privadas y públicas han apoyado la investigación, financiamiento y evaluación de tales mecanismos —básicamente de reducción de emisiones, de deforestación y degradación y de desarrollo limpio— en distintos lugares del país. Ello da cuenta de la valoración económica de los beneficios que ofrecen los ecosistemas. Es decir, durante los últimos años los estudios del área económica-ambiental han adquirido particular relevancia. El objetivo del presente capítulo es recopilar y evaluar la contribución de los estudios sobre recursos naturales y ambientales de índole económica elaborados en el Perú durante el período 2008- 2011, aunque también considera algunas investigaciones hechas en el extranjero, siempre y cuando giren en torno de los temas mencionados. Se presenta el balance de la investigación realizada en el período 2008-2011; y se propone una agenda de trabajo para orientar la futura investigación económica-ambiental. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XIII Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2011, con el auspicio del Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés) y la Fundación Manuel J. Bustamante de la Fuente.
