Política de salud y anemia: el efecto de la lactancia materna exclusiva

Abstract

La prevalencia global de anemia fue 27% en el 2013, afectando a 1.93 billones de personas, casi en su totalidad de países en desarrollo (Kassebaum, 2016). La anemia es una causa de mortalidad, especialmente de mortalidad cardiovascular (Liu et al., 2019). Si bien en al menos la mitad de los casos la anemia se explica por una deficiencia de hierro, existen otros factores que pueden provocar esta enfermedad (Kassebaum, 2016). Perú es el segundo país con la mayor prevalencia de anemia infantil en Sudamérica, donde cuatro de cada diez niños menores de 3 años la padecen (Mujica-Coopman et al., 2015). Esto la establece como uno de los principales problemas de salud pública del país y, pese a los esfuerzos gubernamentales, su reducción ha sido mínima en los últimos años (Zavaleta, 2017). En este contexto, la investigación busca contribuir al conocimiento sobre la relación entre la lactancia materna exclusiva (LME) y la anemia en los infantes peruanos. Así, pretendemos cuantificar el efecto de los programas nutricionales en el combate contra la anemia infantil, evaluando en este caso la política de LME. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XXI Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2019, con el auspicio del Ministerio de Economía y Finanzas.
