¿Gastar o invertir?: el dilema del uso productivo o no productivo de las remesas en los hogares del Perú

Abstract

En el Perú, son pocas los estudios que cuantifican la importancia de las remesas y exploran las posibilidades de uso de estos recursos como instrumento de desarrollo. Aún no se han realizado esfuerzos por estimar el potencial efecto de las remesas totales sobre el bienestar de los hogares, midiendo este bienestar no solo a través del incremento de los ingresos, sino a través de los diferentes tipos de gastos que puede realizar un hogar receptor de remesas. Mediante el uso de la Encuesta Nacional de Hogares (ENAHO) 2007, esta investigación busca aportar evidencia empírica sobre las características socioeconómicas de los hogares receptores de remesas y la escala de los montos transferidos, así como sobre las relaciones entre las remesas y los diferentes tipos de gasto del hogar (productivos y no productivos). Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del IX Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2007, con el auspicio de la Agencia Canadiense para el Desarrollo Internacional (ACDI) y el Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés).
