Las barreras al crecimiento económico en San Martín

Abstract

Desde hace un tiempo, en el marco de la estabilización macroeconómica y las reformas estructurales en el país, la región San Martín viene presentando un buen desempeño económico, lo que le ha permitido crecer por encima del promedio nacional. Sin embargo, en términos per cápita, el departamento aún se encuentra por debajo de dicho promedio. El objetivo de este estudio es determinar los principales factores que explican el desempeño económico de la región y analizar las restricciones fundamentales que enfrenta para acelerar su crecimiento. Se utiliza la metodología desarrollada por Hausmann, Rodrik y Velasco (2005), quienes plantean cómo identificar justamente las principales restricciones y la aplicación inmediata de políticas de reforma. El estudio se publicó en el año 2012, gracias al auspicio del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID).
