VIH y discriminación en Ica. Un problema de salud pública

Abstract

En el año 2006, el Observatorio del Derecho a la Salud del Consorcio de Investigación Económica y Social y el Centro de Estudios para el Desarrollo y la Participación encargaron la realización de un diagnóstico participativo sobre la discriminación y el estigma que afectan a las personas que viven con VIH-sida en el departamento de Ica, el segundo departamento peruano, después de Lima y Callao, donde se registra la mayor cantidad de infecciones. Los autores ofrecen un acercamiento de primera mano a la forma como las personas que viven con VIH-sida experimentan la discriminación y el estigma, abordando también los pasos pioneros que están dando los grupos de ayuda mutua para apoyar a estas personas a persistir en el tratamiento y a afrontar la marginación y la pobreza. La investigación, además, constituye un punto de partida para continuar estudiando las formas que adoptan la discriminación y el estigma tanto en otros contextos regionales como en otros cuadros de salud. Este documento forma parte del proyecto Observatorio del Derecho a la Salud. Se publicó en la serie CIES Diagnóstico y Propuesta 28, 2007, gracias al auspicio de la Fundación Ford y CARE Perú.
