Islamic banking in Europe and in Italy

Author

  • Rino Lombardi

Abstract

The Islamic banking has been transformed over the last three decades in a sector of significant size, although the theoretical basis for this innovative method of finance are still poorly known in most Western countries. In Europe, Great Britain has gained the more significant experience in the field, followed by France, which is the second country with the necessary skills to succeed in creating synergies between Islamic and traditional system. Italy remains one of the few countries that has not yet implemented the Islamic financial system, even if its strategic position, the network of small financial institutions and the strong movement of ethical finance make Italy a natural candidate for its development, once solved the legislative and fiscal problems.
