Rights management: A focused approach

Abstract

At the recent Canada 3.0 media, entertainment and technology conference in Toronto, representatives of stakeholders in the media industry met to discuss issues around rights management. The consensus was that a number of business, market and technology challenges are driving interest in standardisation efforts. This paper draws on the insights and expertise of participants in these sessions to describe challenges of rights management and to discuss approaches to the development and use of standards. The primary sponsors of the efforts are in the USA and Canada and so the scope is North American.
