Abstract

The increase in computer power, availability of microdata and development of new statistical programmes saw an increase in the number of company growth empirical analyses. While many papers use company-level datasets like balance sheets or profit and loss statements, new analyses use database at an even finer level – the company product level. The goal of this paper is to: i) elaborate on the classification of product level micro data, ii) review principle economic theories used in the empirical analyses with product level data, and iii) review recent research papers conducing analysis with product level data. Paper concludes with opportunities and obstacles for further research.
