La importancia de la religión para el desarrollo. Un análisis empírico a partir de la ecuación de Mincer

Abstract

El documento estudia, mediante una versión ampliada de la ecuación de Mincer que incorpora la religión (credo y nivel de práctica religiosa), la incidencia de la religión y la religiosidad sobre el desarrollo económico y bienestar de las personas en Argentina. Se realizaron tres modelos distintos con el fin captar qué sucede al ampliar la definición de desarrollo a través del ingreso, de las condiciones de vida y del bienestar general. Para el ingreso ser muy religioso, ser judío o ser poco practicante de otras religiones tiene un efecto negativo. Ser practicante tiene un efecto positivo. La religión y religiosidad tienen menor efecto sobre el índice de subsistencia. Ser practicante en la mayoría de las religiones se asocia con un mejor índice de satisfacción. Dadas las especificaciones y metodología aplicada no se ha podido concluir fehacientemente si ser ateo o creyente es una distinción relevante al bienestar. Futuras investigaciones y profundizaciones de este tópico serán realizadas y se recomiendan.
