Abstract

In this survey, evidence was found that Q fever is naturally occurring in Northwest Texas in cattle. Since cattle are believed to be the major reservoir for Q fever this suggests that human cases have occurred in Northwest Texas, but are misdiagnosed or unreported. Though as yet undetermined there appears to be a relationship between cattle and rodent populations to Q fever. Further studies are necessary to determine this relationship and other reservoirs or modes of transmission which may serve as potential health hazards. Also necessary is a study of the incidence of human cases of Q fever in Northwest Texas.
