Editorial: The right to choose abortion

Author

Listed:
  • Roemer, R.

Abstract

The position of the American Pharmaceutical Association supporting the Supreme Court decision on abortion is reaffirmed and organized efforts to reverse the rulings are surveyed. The cases of "Roe v. Wade" and "Doe v. Bolton", which were leading cases in the Supreme Court decision, are reviewed with respect to their opinions and guiding recommendations. The positive health effects of abortion such as reduced maternal mortality rates are mentioned and it is suggested that since Catholic women aborting constitute a greater proportion of abortees compared to the proportion of Catholics in the general population, that women of all faiths will resort to abortion if confronted with an unwanted pregnancy.
