O Declínio Sustentado da Desigualdade de Renda no Brasil (1997-2009)

Abstract

Este texto reúne evidências empíricas recentes sobre a queda da desigualdade de renda no Brasil. O ponto de partida é a contribuição de cada tipo de renda para a queda do coeficiente de Gini da renda domiciliar per capita no período 1997-2009. Discutem-se a seguir as características de funcionamento do mercado de trabalho, já que o rendimento do trabalho foi responsável por 69% da queda da desigualdade no período. As transferências previdenciárias e assistenciais são analisadas quanto ao seu impacto sobre a queda da desigualdade, assim como quanto às suas potencialidades distributivas associadas a mudanças nas regras dos sistemas.
