The Importance of the Internet forTravel Agencies Operations (AStudy on TURSAB - B.Y.K. Members Travel Agencies)

Abstract

The Internet has a great importance on the changing business process in travel industry. This study aims at analyzing the importance, advantages, reasons and frequencies of the Internet usage in travel industry. To gather data, a questionnaire was given to the travel agencies which aremembers of TURSAB (The Association of Turkish Travel Agencies) and B.Y.K. ( Regional Executive Council). The results indicate that travel agencies are aware of the importance of the Internet in the sector. Using the Internet as a tool for communicating with the customers and as a marketing activity seem to be the most important reason for using the Internet. The findings also show that there are no differences betwwen the perceptions of the importance and the advantages of the Internet. The Internet is also seen as a time saving tool while morespecific reasons like online payment seems less important reasons for the travel agencies.
