Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected many sectors of the economy, but it is believed that certain industries have even benefited, including the e-commerce market. The inability to enjoy shopping, the temporary closure of retail shopping centers and fear for their own health have forced many consumers to resort to the services of e-commerce companies. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the e-commerce market and its largest players. In this research, the following issues are examined: the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the retail trade as one of the essential elements of a market economy; the effects of the pandemic on the e-commerce, and the changes in the performance of the leading companies; the state of the domestic e-commerce market. The study shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a positive impact on the major industry indicators such as the number of online buyers and sales in the e-commerce sector. Besides, the changes in the business revenues and earnings per share (EPS) also suggest a positive trend. The results of the study allow us to get a broader perspective of the COVID-19 influence on the e-commerce sector. In conclusion, prospects for the industry are estimated.
