Abstract

The article analyzes the current stage of the food security in the framework of the ASEAN integration processes and the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community. Close cooperation of the ASEAN member-states at present is even more important as the ASEAN region is home to more than 650 million of inhabitants, 9.8% of which suffer food shortages. Thus, while fulfilling the concept of food security in the ASEAN one of the most important objectives is to create necessary conditions for ensuring stable physical and economic access of people to healthy food in such quantities that are daily required to support healthy and active life. The above mentioned prerequisite of the ASEAN food security provides Russia with additional opportunities, including increasing trade and economic cooperation with the member-states as well as the promotion of its interests in the Asia-Pacific region, in general. In order to take these opportunities Russia needs to use its competitiveness in such fields as production, R&D and the development of exports of organic foods to the ASEAN region.
