Prospects for Economic Integration within BRICS

Abstract

The paper analyses prospects for economic integration within BRICS countries. The author identifies key factors, contributing and hampering implementation of integration scenario, gives a comprehensive assessment of bilateral trade balances, commodity structure of mutual trade flows,merchandise trade complementarity indices dynamics etc. The author pays special attention to protectionism in BRICS countries’ trade policies, estimates BRICS heterogeneity on traderegulation and investment climate indicators. In final part of the paper the author presents key conclusions and forecasts of transregional integration prospects and the most likely and favorable formant of economic integration within BRICS.
