International Laboratories: an Attempt to Save Russian Science (Based on the Interviews with Insiders)

Abstract

The paper presents the quantative sociological research based on the interviewing method. It analyses the activities and performance of laboratories under the supervision of leading scientists. Using actor-network approach, paper shows the specificity of the socio-cognitive organization of international laboratories as open structures, implementing new research ideology. This article also focuses upon three aspects of the processes of young scientists training: recruiting, epistemic practices and mobility. The results displays «weak ties» in the life of laboratory, which complete separation can lead to the extinction of laboratory or resources redistribution.
