Abstract

The aim of the article is to analyze the relationship between the governance schemes and the income distribution within value chains. Specially, the implicit and explicit command mechanisms deployed by the leading firms to appropriate innovation rents are analyzed, attending to the role played by the different private and public actors. As a result, it is observed that governance is decisive for capturing innovation rents in easily reproducible products, but ultimately these depend on the firm's own innovative capacity.
