Abstract

The economic growth of many developing countries depends not only on the evolution of the factors of production, but also on the foreign currency financing. Thus, foreign trade elasticities are a key variable. In this article, an estimate of the Argentine foreign trade elasticities for the period 1996-2013 is made both, in aggregated terms as well as disaggregated by main trade partners. Results show that the country faces an obstacle to achieving a growth rate similar to that of its main trade partners; however, this challenge cannot be overcome only by exchange rate policies.
