The minimum wage and employment in Argentina

Abstract

TThis paper aims to contribute to the discussion about the effects of minimum wages on labour market. Argentina provides the opportunity to explore the issue in depth because in the recent past –from 2003– the minimum wage was modified repeatedly. We analyze the level of minimum wage during the period and its impact on the distribution of wages and employment. We also use panel data to estimate the chances that individuals remain in the same labor market status after changes in this regulation.
