Abstract

Within the framework of the debates around the economic transformations during the period known as post-convertibility, one of the central discussions has revolved around the nature of the evolution of the Argentine industry and its reprimarization, and the role of commodity prices in this growth. This work aims to make a contribution to the debate on the evolution of the agro-industrial sector in the post-convertibility period, framing it in a broader discussion about the current forms of economic insertion of Argentina in the world economy and its potential based on the case study of a Argentine company: Molinos Río de la Plata. It is concluded that the company had a dual strategy, based on the bulk and brand segments, and that the evolution of Molinos' profitability during the considered period gives us some important keys to understand the result of its strategies. In addition, some final reflections are made regarding the structural limitations of the Argentine economy as a peripheral or dependent economy and the new challenges imposed by the logic of global accumulation in the agri-food industry.
