Consumer behavior in the self-tracking style, preferences, and perceptions of fitness gadgets

Abstract

Objectives: The development of computer technologies, information systems, and the Internet creates fundamentally and qualitatively new opportunities for independent control of the state of the body and human health, including in-home, household, and everyday conditions. Health monitoring processes' new possibilities and realities require appropriate study, analysis, and understanding. Methods/Approach: The paper aimed to study the various aspects of self-tracking, as trends in the active use of various technological gadgets for self-monitoring, as well as the attitude of young people to digitalization, computerization of medicine, and the use of electronic medical gadgets, smartphones, Internet resources for self-control of the health. The methods of search, analysis, and generalization of relevant scientific publications, as well as a survey of young users of fitness devices, were applied. Results: Features, advantages, disadvantages, and prospects of self-tracking as a social phenomenon in health care have been given, and features of youth perception of digital medicine and gadgets for health monitoring have been established. Self-monitoring is becoming a strong trend in preventing a healthy lifestyle and control of the body in a digital revolution and comprehensive computerization of society. Conclusions: Fitness gadgets, cloud, and internet technologies open up qualitatively new opportunities for healthcare. At the same time, many new, complex ethical and technological issues arise, among which personal data protection should be highlighted.
