Abstract

Traditional project management practices have evolved over time as the requirements for managing and controlling construction projects unfolded. However, with the advances of management techniques and ICT, traditional practices have proven to be insufficient in meeting the new project requirements. Construction projects are being designed by diverse number of designers (which may well be placed at different geographical locations), procured and managed by new partnering strategies, materials are purchased and delivered through strategic alliances with suppliers etc. These changes have highlighted a number of weaknesses in the traditional project management practices some of which are discussed in the following paper.
