Exclusión social, endogamia y transmisión ocupacional. Los xuetes mallorquines (ca. 1770-1930)

Abstract

Se analiza la especialización socio profesional de un colectivo históricamente marginado por su ascendencia judeoconversa: los xuetes mallorquines. El estudio abarca desde la etapa final del Antiguo Régimen hasta el año inmediatamente anterior a la guerra civil española (1936-39). Se constata, por un lado, su dedicación eminentemente comercial y su especialización en algunas líneas de negocio en particular. Asimismo, la transmisión intergeneracional de un conjunto de destrezas profesionales sustentadas en las prácticas matrimoniales endogámicas, las relaciones de parentesco y los estrechos lazos de solidaridad entre los integrantes del grupo.
