The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2023 [Book review]

Abstract

In this section, Milaidi García Bravo (Professor and Researcher at the School of Nutrition and Dietetics, Universidad de Los Andes-ULA, Venezuela) analyzes and reviews the study entitled “The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World”. This is an annual publication by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), aimed at policymakers, international organizations, academic institutions, and the general public. It updates and tracks the main global progress towards the targets of eradicating hunger (SDG Target 2.1 of United Nations) and improving food security and nutrition globally, while analyzing some challenges to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. ----- En esta sección, Milaidi García Bravo (Profesora e Investigadora de la Escuela de Nutrición y Dietética de la Universidad de Los Andes-ULA, Venezuela) reseña el estudio titulado “El estado de la seguridad alimentaria y la nutrición en el mundo”. Se trata de una publicación anual realizada por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación (FAO), el Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA), el Fondo de las Naciones Unidas para la Infancia (UNICEF), el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (PMA) y la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), dirigida a los responsables de políticas, organizaciones internacionales, instituciones académicas y al público general. A través de ella se hace un seguimiento a los progresos relacionados con la erradicación del hambre y la mejora de la seguridad alimentaria y la nutrición a nivel mundial, al tiempo que analiza algunos de los desafío de cara a alcanzar los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de la Agenda 2030.
