Abstract

In this new book, Ximena Montilla Arreaza compiles dozens of stories, recipes, and curiosities about the now-universal Venezuelan dish. It consists of 8 large sections. The first, of a general nature, is made up of the sections "How to Celebrate World Arepa Day (the compilers), “A arepazos... Pum! Cae el muro" (by Sumito Estévez), "Historia personal de la Arepa" (by Rafael Cartay), "La mujer detrás de la arepa" (by María Antonieta Pérez Mendoza) and "Los Hermanos Álvarez" (by Ximena Montilla and Roberto Bernal). The second narrates the stories and experiences of 27 entrepreneurs in 18 countries, from Japan to Guinea Bissau (the so-called "Arepa Ambassadors", selected with the collaboration of a committee formed by Chucho Rojas, Federico Tischler, Luisaury Araque, and Víctor Moreno). The third section, "And how do we present it", is the visual construction of the arepa from the perspective of illustrators Ira León, Patrick Dolande, and Edo. The book is completed by the sections “El giro de la arepa”, “Mujeres y hombres del maíz”, “La arepa conquista el mantel largo”, “Y para el postre...” and “A la arepa nuestra de cada día...” The book was launched on the occasion of the "World Arepa Day 2023" and is available, in open access, both in Spanish and English. --- En este nuevo libro Ximena Montilla Arreaza compila decenas de historias, recetas y curiosidades acerca del ahora convertido en el plato venezolano universal.
