More Nonmetro Elderly Rate Their Health as Fair or Poor

Abstract

Persons 60 years and older are much more likely than younger people to rate their health as fair or poor and to have difficulties with daily activities. Among the elderly, nonmetro residents are more likely to have poor health status than their metro counterparts. Larger proportions of the nonmetro elderly have less than a high school education and income below $20,000—factors that contribute to their higher incidence of poor health.
